What Our Bubble Mailers Are Made Of
Each mailer has two layers:
- Outer layer: 110gsm white kraft paper. It’s recyclable, tear-resistant, and easy to write on, label and print.
- Inner layer: 60gsm bubble film, with bubbles 10mm across and 4mm high.
Because the outside is paper, each mailer uses less plastic than a fully plastic (poly) bubble mailer. The bubble lining is still plastic, though, so depending on your local council the paper and film may need to be separated before recycling. If you need a plastic-free option, use our Honeycomb Paper Mailers, which are made entirely of paper and can go in kerbside recycling.
Bubble Mailers vs Other Mailers: Which Should You Use?
| Mailer | Protection | Plastic-free? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bubble mailers (this page) | High cushioning | No (paper + film) | Small fragile items, electronics, cosmetics |
| Honeycomb paper mailers | Medium cushioning | Yes | Brands going plastic-free, clothing, accessories |
| Rigid card mailers | Stops bending, no cushioning | Yes | Photos, prints, certificates, documents |

Bubble Mailer FAQs
What is the most popular bubble mailer size?
Our best-selling size is 160 x 230mm. It fits A5 and is the go-to choice for cosmetics, phone cases, cables and other small online orders. If you’re not sure which size to order, start with the size guide above.
What are bubble mailers used for?
Sending small items that need some cushioning: cosmetics, phone and computer accessories, books, documents and small retail products. They’re lighter than a box, so they usually cost less to post.
Are bubble mailers and padded envelopes the same thing?
Mostly, yes. People use “bubble mailer”, “padded envelope” and “bubble envelope” for the same thing. Strictly speaking, a bubble mailer is lined with air-bubble film, while some padded envelopes are lined with paper padding instead.
Which bubble mailer fits A4?
To send A4 sheets (210 x 297mm) flat, use the 235 x 350mm mailer. The 215 x 280mm mailer only fits A4 if it’s folded. For A5 use 160 x 230mm, and for A3 use 360 x 480mm.
Can I send a bubble mailer as a large letter?
Yes, as long as the filled mailer is no bigger than 260 x 360mm, no thicker than 20mm and no heavier than 500g. Our 120 x 180mm, 160 x 230mm, 215 x 280mm and 235 x 350mm mailers can qualify, depending on what’s inside. The 360 x 480mm mailer always goes as a parcel. Australia Post may also treat an item as a parcel if it contains something rigid.
Can you put stamps on a bubble mailer?
Yes. If the filled mailer is within large letter limits (260 x 360mm, 20mm thick, 500g), you can pay with stamps and drop it in a street post box. The number of stamps depends on the weight. See our stamps guide or the Australia Post website. Anything thicker or heavier has to go as a parcel.
Is a bubble mailer a letter or a parcel?
It depends on what’s inside. A bubble mailer within large letter limits is posted as a letter. If it’s thicker than 20mm, heavier than 500g or contains something rigid, Australia Post charges it as a parcel.
What size bubble mailer is best for trading cards or a DVD?
A single trading card in a top-loader fits our 120 x 180mm mailer, and a few cards fit the 160 x 230mm. A DVD or Blu-ray case (about 135 x 190 x 14mm) fits best in the 215 x 280mm mailer, which leaves enough room for the mailer to seal without squashing the case.
Can you print my logo on bubble mailers?
Yes, on the front or back, from $0.40 per mailer. Contact us for a quote.
Are bubble mailers waterproof?
No. The bubble lining resists water, but the outer is paper, so these mailers won’t survive rain or a wet doorstep. For parcels that may be left outside, put the item in a sealed bag first or use one of our plastic courier bags.
Do you sell bubble mailers in bulk?
Yes, in packs of 100, 200 and 400. The more you buy, the cheaper each mailer is. For larger quantities call 1300 670 673 for a bulk quote, or contact us about pallet orders.
Are your bubble mailers recyclable?
The paper outer is recyclable. The bubble lining is soft plastic, so most councils want the two separated first. For a fully kerbside-recyclable option, use our honeycomb paper mailers.
